Tree-ring dating involves measuring the tree ring series in bits of wood and comparing them with already dated series. In standing buildings this usually involves extracting cores (15mm diameter) or taking slices from timbers - especially those retaining some or all of the sapwood. Medieval buildings usually used 'green' (unseasoned) wood, so felling dates approximate to construction dates. In doors, chests etc. wood was often seasoned.

Locations

I have worked all over (UK, France, Canada, New Zealand, Eire) but tend to work mostly in southern England and Wales at present.
